Give your Italian-inspired dishes an extra pinch of freshness with your own Potted Oregano Plant from Organic Blooms. Carefully cultivated in Organic Blooms’ nursery, this hardy oregano plant comes potted in a plastic- and peat-free pot which is completely compostable. Just pinch a few leaves and sprinkle over pizzas, pastas and salads to add its strong aroma and sweet, herbal flavour to dishes.

You should be able to use a little of your organic oregano right away, but it's best to grow the plant on for a couple of weeks before giving it a bigger chop. This plant is right at home on a sunny kitchen windowsill, but if it grows faster than you can use it (oregano is robust and hardy), it’s also simple to repot or plant out in the garden. Then you can simply compost the fibrous pot it arrives in.

Producer

Jo Wright and her team at Organic Blooms work hard to bring organic flowers to your door. Based in Gloucestershire, they run as a social enterprise, providing jobs for those who might struggle in a traditional workplace. Horticultural therapy is at the heart of what they do – gardening and plant-tending being excellent options for those with varying support needs. We work with them to plan upcoming crops, making sure each flower is reliable, interesting and satisfying for their staff to grow. We’re proud to say that, because of our support, they’ve been able to hire more people than ever before.

Storage & prep

Open straight away and water well. Thyme likes a sunny windowsill or sunny bed outside, it is a perennial herb and will die back in the winter but re-emerge in the spring. Your plant will arrive in a biodegradable wood-pulp pot, you can keep it inside this pot for a little while but it will start to break down once you've watered it a few times. You can either pot it on inside the pot, give it a good soak first and it will slowly break down allowing the roots to grow outwards. Or you can tip it out of the pot to pot it on and compost or reuse the wood-pulp pot.
