You might have come across the pickled version of this fish before (one of its most popular forms). This herring is beautifully fresh – almost as if you’ve popped down to the fish market yourself – and has a lovely, salty flavour. Herrings are oilier than many other fish, containing Omega-3 fatty acids. Having been butterflied, this herring is conveniently deboned, making it perfect for a quick pan fry. As with all our fish, it’s been caught with the future in mind, having been awarded the MCS’s highest sustainability ranking of 1.

They have good links with UK fish markets from Cornwall to Scotland but also work with local fishers, in and around Wales and Ireland. Since preserving the quality of the fish is paramount to them, they only buy whole fish so they can be sure it’s filleted in their expert way. With the years of experience Gareth and Nick both have, and their brilliant approach to fishing, you won't just be eating the most delicious fish around, but you'll be doing it in the best way possible too. For us they will only source fish that is rated 1-3 on the Marine Conservation Society’s sustainability scale, meaning it’s more responsibly caught.

Storage & prep

Keep refrigerated. Suitable for home freezing. Freeze as soon as possible after delivery and before the "use by" date on the pack. Once frozen, consume within 6 months.
