Steve's Salisbury Plain honey tastes like a walk in a meadow on a summer afternoon. It has beautiful floral flavours that result from Steve guiding the bees to some of Britain's most fragrant spots. This honey will sweep your tastebuds off their feet (well, if your tastebuds actually had feet). Because it's so exceptional, we've had to make a few exceptions in sourcing it. It's not organic because sadly no English honey is. For honey to be certified as organic the bee-keeper has to have certified all land within a four mile radius from the hives as organic. On a small island, this is a tricky feat. Steve's honey supports the brilliant cause of trying to save the British honey bee. To add to its clout, we're donating 50p from every jar sold toward bee research at the West Wales Bee Breeding Program.

Ten years ago Steve Benbow decided he wanted to keep bees in London. One problem: he lived on the 6th floor of an ex-council block near Tower Bridge with no garden. The only viable space was a flat roof, accessed via a fire escape. It worked. He set his first hive behind the lift shaft complete with live bee cam. It was the start of a thriving urban business. His bee empire is now 850 hives strong – all across the UK. Keeping his bees happy requires a lot of work, and a nomadic lifestyle. “I constantly move them around to gather nectar and avoid mono-floral crops. I might be heading to Salisbury Plain where there are amazing pastures on MOD training grounds and then heading off to up to isolated heather moors in Yorkshire and North Wales.” He loves it, and it makes for a marvellous drop of British honey.
