Start your seeds off with a peat-free, self-feeding wool compost mix that uses organic sheep’s wool to nurture over a long period of time. As the wool breaks down, it begins a steady, slow release of nitrogen and provides great water retention, meaning fewer trips for your watering can. A mix of bracken, rich in potash, iron and magnesium, also means your plants and flowers won’t be… lacking. This sustainable mix is the perfect start for your little seeds.

Dalefoot composts represent a combination of traditional farming techniques and new environmental sciences. As a fifth-generation farmer, Simon welcomed Jane’s expertise in helping combat a problem facing much of the Lake District’s fells. The aggressively growing bracken that dominates the Lake District’s hills can be harvested to allow for greater ecological diversity and for a nutrient-rich compost. When mixed in with sheep’s wool, Simon and Jane found they’d created a fantastic compost that gave plants a real growth boost with excellent water retention. An excellent way to turn a problem into a woolly, mulchy solution.
