Hot Buttered Rum

Sweet and spicy with a boozy kick, hot buttered rum is just the thing for toasting winter's arrival.

  • 110g salted butter, softened
  • 110g honey
  • 1 tsp mixed spice
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 50ml spiced rum
  • Boiling water, to serve

Method

1. Start by making the spiced butter. Put the softened butter in a mixing bowl and add the honey, mixed spice and cinnamon. Beat till combined and smooth. Scoop the butter into a tub, seal and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
2. To make the hot buttered rum, measure 25ml spiced rum each into heatproof glasses or mugs. Add 2 tbsp of the spiced butter. Boil your kettle, then add around 100-150ml boiling water to each glass and stir to dissolve the butter. Serve straight away.
3. Buttery Good Ideas If you don't want to use all your spiced butter making Hot Buttered Rums, it's also delicious spread on toast or used to top a stack of pancakes or waffles for brunch.
