Finding ourselves in the midst of a climate crisis, it’s more important than ever to do our part to keep the planet healthy. Planting trees is a great way to do just that, which is where Andover Trees United comes in.
Tree planting with Abel & Cole
The world needs more trees, now more than ever. Their ability to suck up and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere plays a huge part in fighting climate change, after all. So getting behind movements like Andover Trees United was a no-brainer for us.
Since 2012, they’ve welcomed 1,000 young people every year, along with their teachers, families and friends, to plant trees and wildflowers on a patch of land in the Andover area. The result is the 12-acre Harmony Woods, holding 8,000 trees planted over the last eight years. By 2021, the final year of planting, that number will have grown to an amazing 10,000.
It’s given the planet some more very crucial green space, but just as importantly, it’s brought communities together through a love of nature and a shared passion to care for it.
Speaking of a love of nature, have you met our Ed and Marta? They’re two of Veg HQ’s most avid fans of flora and fauna, and enlighten all of us on a regular basis on sustainability and caring for the planet. Being our resident green thumbs, they naturally had last year’s National Tree Week marked in their calendars long in advance. On the agenda? Why, some planting, of course.
Marta left the big smoke behind for a day, for woodier surroundings in Andover, where she joined the thousand-strong troop keen to get some soil under their fingernails in Harmony Woods. Meanwhile, back at Veg HQ, Ed decided he’d spruce up our very own backyard – fittingly on Plant a Tree Day, the 30th of November.
And now, thanks to them, and the thousands of others, the world’s a greener place.
“Trees are a great way to attract nature, and while they might be tiny at the moment we’re hoping that very soon our new apple and cherry trees will increase the tree cover in our neck of the woods, and with it improve the biodiversity found around our offices.” – Ed. Hear, hear!
