Cockle-warming tipple – it’s part and parcel of Christmas isn’t it? Port, mulled wine, and bubbly are all festive classics but we’ll be pouring ourselves some organic gin this year. Sure, it might seem timelier during the summer months, when you’re after ice-cold, kicky refreshment. But in lively, rich Graveney Gin, we’ve found something special that will go along rather well with all the merriment this Christmas.

Victoria Christie’s always had a soft spot for gin. Her mum counts gin and tonic as her favourite drink, and she remembers loving the smell of it as a child. Now, as an adult, she loves the taste. So much so that she’d often find herself hunting for the more obscure gins when out and about, to find the next concoction of botanicals that would blow her away.
It took a visit to the Ginstitute at Portobello Road, and a loving nudge from her husband, to start making her own organic gin. Outgrowing her hom gin distillery rather quickly, Victoria found herself a cosy nook in Tooting Market to set up shop. There’s just enough room for the two 30-litre stills and eight chairs to seat anyone looking to enjoy a chat with Victoria while sipping on her gorgeous gin.
And how gorgeous it is. Victoria has painstakingly whittled down all her favourite botanicals from some of her most-loved gins to a magnificent seven. Juniper, angelica, orris root, pink grapefruit peel, fresh orange, pink peppercorn, and baobab (a nod to her South African heritage) sit together in perfect harmony in her organic gin. Zesty, citrusy, sweet and savoury notes all complement each other beautifully. The festive, piny notes of juniper are especially fitting for this time of year.
In good hands
Perhaps the thing we love most about Victoria’s organic gin is that every bit of it – from the distilling, to the bottling, to the labelling – is taken care of by her own hands. It’s a true labour of love and passion. “If I could do anything in this world, making gin would be it”, she says. Well, she’s making it very well indeed. And partnered with one of our lovely Luscombe tonics, merriment has a whole new name this Christmas.
